Introducing fish

Once you've had the fun of choosing your fish and carefully transporting them home, they must be introduced into the pond without suffering any shocks to their system.

  1. First, simply float the bag - still sealed - on the pond surface for 20 minutes. If it's a hot sunny day, cover the bag with a few sheets of newspaper to shield the fish from bright sun.

  2. After 20 minutes, open the bag and roll down the sides to create a floating 'collar'. Allow this bag to float for another 10 minutes, gradually adding a few cupfuls of water every couple of minutes.

  3. After this 10 minute period (30 minutes in total after the initial floating), simply scoop the fish from the bag into the pond using either a wet hand or net. Discard the water in the bag on the garden.

Remember the maximum stocking level for your pond is 25cm length of fish for every 1 square metre of pond surface area.
