Pond Safety

General

Young children must ALWAYS be supervised when they are close to any open water, whether that be a garden pond, paddling pool, swimming pool, river, stream, lake or the sea.

Children under three years of age are at particular risk because they are still unsteady on their feet.

Pond owners should seek expert advice from a reputable dealer before making any decision regarding the installation of a pond.

Shallow shelving or marshy edges can be incorporated into the design so that there is no easy access to deep water.

Shrubs and plants can be used to make access to the pond difficult for youngsters. Grills can be manufactured to provide either temporary or permanent cover.

Electricity

Care must be taken when installing any garden electrical equipment. Always refer to the product instruction leaflet for the installation guidelines. If you are in any doubt, consult a qualified electrician. Within the Blagdon Powersafe product range there is a selection of safe and easy legal DIY power product, for more information please see our leaflet or ask your retailer.

Where necessary, waterproof unions of the appropriate type should be used - consult your retailers for specific advice.

Cables and equipment should be checked regularly and repairs or replacements carried out as soon as a fault is detected.

The law states that a Circuit Breaker should always be used on any outdoor power supply, they can provide life saving protection from electrocution.

All electrical items should be switched off when maintenance or repair is undertaken.

Chemicals

Pond treatments all carry labels giving detailed instructions on safe use and handling - please make sure all information is carefully read and understood before proceeding. This will ensure that both you and your fish remain safe.

All chemicals should be kept out of the reach of young children at all times.
